Veteran Disability Attorney Eric Gang Publishes Editorial in International Business Times Calling for Urgent Action on Veteran Nutrition

Veteran disability attorney Eric Gang was recently featured in International Business Times for his editorial, “Why America’s Veterans Deserve Nutritional Education, Not Just Compensation: The Nutritional Crisis We Can’t Ignore.”

In the piece, Gang sheds light on an overlooked national issue: the growing nutritional and health crisis among U.S. veterans. Drawing on his experience representing and advocating for veterans, he argues that compensation alone cannot solve the long-term health challenges facing those who have served. Instead, he calls for systemic reform, integrating nutrition education into military training, veteran services, and national health policy.

“How we eat cannot be separated from who we are,” Gang writes. “If we act now — embedding nutritional education in military and veteran systems and aligning policy with evidence — we can begin to reverse the tide.”

The editorial highlights alarming statistics, including that more than three-quarters of male veterans and nearly two-thirds of female veterans are overweight or obese. Gang connects this reality not only to individual health but to national readiness, warning that poor diet and preventable diseases threaten both veterans’ well-being and the nation’s ability to defend itself.

Through his advocacy, Gang continues to push for evidence-based policy changes that support veterans’ long-term health and quality of life. His editorial serves as a call to action for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the public to view nutrition as a matter of national security — not personal preference.
